Newcastle are lining-up another French coup with a bid for Valenciennes central defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, reports the Daily Star.

The Magpies recently completed the signing of France full-back Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, and according to the report, manager Alan Pardew is set to return to France for his next January swoop.

Isimat-Mirin has been a prominent member of the Valenciennes first-team over the past year and a half, helping the Ligue 1 outfit to sixth position at the present moment.

The France U21 international would be the subject of a £5m bid from Newcastle, for the former Clairefontaine student.

The Magpies could be looking for defensive reinforcements after a run of games that has seen them win just two games in 16 attempts, including 11 defeats in the last 15 matches.

Newcastle also have the third worst defence in the Premier League, conceding 39 goals, better only than Reading and Aston Villa.
