Ferguson looking for new Man Utd goalkeeper after losing faith in De Gea

Sir Alex Ferguson could be about to enter the January transfer market as the Daily Mirror reports the Manchester United manager has lost patience with David De Gea and is keen to sign a new goalkeeper.

David De Gea

The two names mooted by the Mirror are Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina. Both players would be available to play in the Champions League when the competition resumes but Stoke would be unlikely to welcome a United approach, while a potential transfer for Reina between Liverpool and United comes with its own intrinsic problems.

Ferguson is said to have grown tired of waiting for De Gea to adapt completely to the physical side of the Premier League, with the Spaniard having had a number of high-profile problems dealing with the attention of opposition players at set-pieces. Ferguson has also failed to commit to De Gea as United’s No. 1, often alternating between the former Atletico Madrid stopper and his rival for the position, Anders Lindegaard.

The 22-year-old De Gea has been at United since 2011, making 59 appearances for the club, including 20 this season in all competitions.
