Wenger targets Arsenal buys ahead of hectic schedule

Arsene Wenger is ready to dip into the transfer market ahead of a busy schedule not helped by the prospect of an FA Cup replay with Swansea City, the Daily Mirror has reported, as the Arsenal manager admits he is considering signing a number of players.

Swansea held the Gunners to a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup third round on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium, the home side taking the lead through Michu only for Arsenal to overturn the deficit through Lukas Podolski and Kieran Gibbs. The London club could not hold on, however, and Danny Graham scored late on to take the tie back to the Emirates Stadium, the scene of a Swansea league victory before Christmas.

Having last week allowed both Johan Djourou and Marouane Chamakh to leave the club on loan - the former moving to Hannover and the latter to West Ham United - Wenger confirmed he was seeking new faces to bolster his shrinking squad.

If we find one or two in the transfer market, then why not? Let's first keep the players we have and maybe add one or two because we've lost Chamakh and Djourou now,” Wenger said, with the Mirror adding that Andrei Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci could also both be about to leave the club.

Wenger added: “I am frustrated because I wouldn't want a replay but if that's the choice between going out or staying in the hat then I'll take the replay.
