Chelsea close to Taison deal

By Andrew Tuft

Monday 07 January 2013

Chelsea are understood to be near to completing the signing of Metalist Kharkiv midfielder Taison, Sky Sports has reported, despite competition for the Brazilian from another Premier League club.

Taison

Taison claimed earlier in January that Chelsea had been in contact over a move to England and was understood to be in London, with Chelsea the favourites for the signature of the 24-year-old despite interest from an unnamed Premier League rival.

Metalist were said to be keen to retain Taison but Sky Sports reports the two clubs have now agreed a fee, with Taison and Chelsea coming to an agreement over the player’s personal terms.

Taison was a teammate of midfielder Oscar at Internacional in Brazil before moving to Metalist in the summer of 2010. During his time in Ukraine Taison has played more than 60 games for Metalist, and is capable of either playing wide, through the middle as a support striker or leading the line himself.

Should the deal for Taison go through it would be Chelsea’s second signing of the transfer window after the capture of Demba Ba from Newcastle United, while Chelsea also allowed Daniel Sturridge to leave the club for a move to Liverpool.
