Villas-Boas criticises easy approach at Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has hit out at the methods of his former employers Chelsea, criticising owner Roman Abramovich for taking the easy way out and sacking the manager when results go awry, rather than sticking with a plan for the long haul, Sky Sports has reported.
Villas-Boas was appointed by Abramovich in June 2011, only to be sacked less than a year later with Chelsea lying sixth in the Premier League table and in danger of exiting the Champions League. Villas-Boas’ assistant at Stamford Bridge, former Chelsea midfielder Roberto Di Matteo, was appointed instead, and took the team to victory in the FA Cup and the Champions League.
However, Di Matteo was sacked earlier this season after a patchy run of form, with Rafael Benitez appointed as the club’s interim manager on a contract until the end of the season. Villas-Boas disagrees with the rapid fire change of boss, claiming that Abramovich should stand by his word and retain faith in managers he has appointed regardless of short-term performances.
Villas-Boas said: “There are no plans at Chelsea, it's results that rule. There are times in football when it's easier to replace the coach. But when you embrace a project you believe in people. There was a commitment from Abramovich and his word was given. Yet there was a premature departure.”
