Michael Laudrup was full of praise for his Swansea City players after seeing his side record a 2-0 victory away at Premier League rivals Chelsea in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final, the BBC has reported.

Michu opened the scoring in the first-half after capitalising on a mistake by Blues defender Branislav Ivanovic, with Danny Graham - who replaced Michu after 83 minutes - wrapping up the victory in injury time, again making the most of an error from Ivanovic.

Swansea survived a disallowed Demba Ba goal, a penalty appeal from the new signing that only resulted in Ba being shown a yellow card, and 24 Chelsea shots to take the match back to the Liberty Stadium with a two-goal advantage.

The winners of the tie will meet either Bradford City or Aston Villa, with the Yorkshire side holding a 3-1 lead from the first leg despite plying their trade in League Two.

Speaking after the match, Laudrup said: “It was a fantastic fight. We knew it was going to be difficult. I cannot dream about a result like this.

I think we showed that we have so much apart from quality as well as a lot of confidence in our team. I'm so pleased that in two weeks' time we can come back and play at our ground with a possibility of going to that final.
