Man Utd lead the chase for Zaha

Thursday 10 January 2013

Manchester United are favourites to land the signing of Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha after making an offer that trumps those already tabled from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Wilfried Zaha

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have sanctioned a bid of £12m for the England international, and as part of the deal would allow Zaha to return to Palace on loan for the rest of the season. United would also offer Palace the chance to loan a number of other players contracted to the Old Trafford club, adding the value of those deals to the £8m on offer for Zaha to take the transfer to its £12m price tag.

Arsenal have long been linked with a swoop for Zaha but may have been outbid by United, while Spurs’ bid, spearheaded by chairman Daniel Levy, is considered dead in the water after Tottenham felt Zaha was only interested in a move to either United or the Gunners.

Zaha has made 28 appearances for Palace this season, helping the Eagles to third in the Championship, two points short of the automatic qualification places. Scoring five goals for Palace, Zaha has also made his senior England bow, coming on as a substitute for Roy Hodgson’s side against Sweden in November, playing the final six minutes of the 4-2 defeat.
