PSG play down links to Cole and Evra

Thursday 10 January 2013

Paris Saint-Germain have moved to distance themselves from transfer gossip linking them with a swoop for either of two Premier League left-backs - Chelsea’s Ashley Cole and Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, Sky Sports has reported.

Ashley Cole

Cole has been talked about as a potential Chelsea departure with the England international’s contract at Stamford Bridge due to expire at the end of the season. Sky Sports adds that rumours of Cole’s move to France were given credence by comments from the player’s mother, while a switch to PSG would see Cole re-united with his former Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

Evra, meanwhile, has spent seven years at Old Trafford but was mentioned in connection with a return to France due to PSG’s supposed interest in the defender. However, PSG’s sporting director, former Brazil international and Inter coach Leonardo, insisted that neither Cole, Evra - nor Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder - were on the Parisians’ shortlist.

Leonardo said: “Are Sneijder and Cole options? No, neither is. The same goes for Patrice Evra,” adding that mooted interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid was also pure speculation.
