Redknapp envious of Tottenham’s quality ahead of London derby

Harry Redknapp will be facing some former friends on Saturday, and the 65-year-old Queens Park Rangers manager has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur have the quality to field two different sides that could challenge for top honours.

Sky Sports reports that Redknapp is envious of the options that his successor, Andre Villas-Boas has at his disposal.

In his three years in charge at White Hart Lane, the former Portsmouth and Southampton boss guided Spurs to three successive top five finishes, and knows that his QPR side will be up against it at Loftus Road in the lunchtime kick-off.

Redknapp said: “Spurs could field two teams who could compete in the Premier League. They have a second team who would hold their own at the top level without any problem. For a start, they have five top-class centre-backs.

They can afford to let Danny Rose go to Sunderland on loan because they have people like Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker in the squad. They have loads of top-class midfielders.

Chelsea’s penalty heroics in the Champions League final last May denied Tottenham a place in this season’s competition, but it is staying in the league that is Redknapp’s priority this campaign.

QPR’s shock victory at Stamford Bridge eight days ago, their first away win in the Premier League in 13 months, means they joined Reading on 13 points, but still sit five points adrift of safety.
