It is becoming a frequent flyer zone between Ligue 1 and Newcastle United but with regards to the latest link between the two, Mathieu Valbuena's agent has announced that it is nothing more than rumours, adding that his client would only make the trip across the English channel for a more favourable move to either of the Manchester clubs, according to sources at ESPN.

Mathieu Valbuena

Valbuena, 28, is currently under contract with Marseille until 2015 and has backed up his agent's comments by confirming that his wish is to stay with the Ligue 1 outfit, requesting a new contract to keep him at the club for a further two years.

Midfielder Valbuena believes he owes the club for giving him his chance to succeed in the professional game after being turned away by Bordeaux as a youth player. “I don't ask people to talk about me. I'm very happy at Marseille and focussed on my season,” the player said.

Agent Christophe Hutteau has publically quashed the rumours of Valbuena's proposed move, stating: “He wouldn't go. You don't leave Marseille to go and play for Newcastle.

Valbuena has made 188 appearances for Marseille since his arrival in 2006, scoring 23 goals and has spurned the chance to join compatriots Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux and new signing Mathieu Debuchy.
