Wenger only willing to sell after adding new faces to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has rejected the suggestion that he has to sell players from his Arsenal squad before he can bring in new faces, insisting that the reverse is actually the case, Sky Sports has reported.

Far from being in a position where he has to clear the decks to make room for new signings, Wenger wants to add to his squad this month and then let players move on once he is sure the balance of the squad will not be affected.

Johan Djourou and Marouane Chamakh have both already left the Emirates Stadium, the centre-back moving to Germany with Hannover and the striker pitching up at West Ham, both on season-long loan deals, but despite Andrei Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci being linked with an exit, Wenger is not ready to let them go yet.

We have a good squad, a balanced one. At the moment nobody can go out, unless we buy somebody,” Wenger said. “At the moment our focus is to keep everybody. In every position we have two players. Three is too many and one is not enough.

Arsenal currently lie sixth in the table, four points behind Chelsea, who hold the final Champions League qualification place, having played a game less than fifth-place Everton but trailing the Toffees by only two points.
