David Silva has revealed that Manchester City want to be level on points with Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table by the end of February, the Daily Mirror has reported.

City currently trail United by seven points but overturned a similar deficit last year on their way to a first league title in more than 40 years. As late as six games before the end of last season United held an eight point advantage of City but a run of favourable results - including a 1-0 victory over United at the Etihad Stadium - saw City draw level on points with the Red Devils, eventually winning the title on goal difference on the last day of the season.

Silva feels that the experiences of last season show that City can catch up to United - but the Spain playmaker does not want to leave it quite so late this time around. He said: “It won't be easy, but our challenge is to be back level with Manchester United by the end of February. Last year we saw how they were in front by quite a lot of points, and we won the league anyway, so it can be done.
