Fulham v Wigan - Match preview and team news

Friday 11 January 2013

Fulham are looking to build on their impressive victory at West Brom on New Years’ Day and collect a much-needed home victory over Wigan to move them even further clear of the drop zone. Ex-Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega, who opened his account for the Cottagers in their win at the DW Stadium in the reverse fixture between the two sides earlier this season, could start up front again in a dynamic three-man attack alongside Dimitar Berbatov and Bryan Ruiz.

Attack certainly seems to be the best form of defence for Martin Jol at the moment, who could also be without John Arne Riise (calf), Stephen Kelly (knee), Mark Schwarzer (neck), Mladen Petric (hamstring) and Damien Duff (calf), while Mahamadou Diarra remains abset with a knee injury. Elsewhere, Simon Davies is not quite ready to make a first-team return while a debut could be given to young Dutch midfielder Chris David, who has recently signed on at Fulham from FC Twente.

For the visitors, Roberto Martinez could give a debut to new signing from the MLS Roger Espinoza, as well as give a full debut to on-loan Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez, particularly with Arouna Kone away on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Elsewhere, influential defender Antolin Alcaraz remains abent alongside Adrian Lopez, Ben Watson, Albert Crusat and Ryo Miyaichi, as the Latics attempt to pull out of the drop zone and build on their 3-0 victory at Aston Villa in their last league fixture on the road.
