Man City considering new contract for Tevez

Saturday 12 January 2013

Manchester City will decide whether or not to offer a new contract to Carlos Tevez as the striker enters the final 18 months of his current deal, with manager Roberto Mancini advocating the former Manchester United be tied down for the next few years, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Carlos Tevez

The 28-year-old Tevez has gone through a tempestuous time at City, particularly in his relationship with Mancini, including a spell where Tevez returned to Argentina against the club’s wishes after refusing to warm up while a substitute and being punished accordingly.

Tevez however returned to the City fold in time to play a vital role in beating United to last season’s Premier League title and has featured regularly this season, with the Telegraph claiming Tevez will remain in the City XI to play Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

A one-year extension to Tevez’s contract has been mooted but the newspaper does not believe there will be any agreement reached until the forward’s deal is close to expiration. Mancini however lent his support to the idea of at least another 12 months for Tevez, extending the player's contract until 2015. He said: “ This could be an option because Carlos is 28 and he has other years to play. We have another 18 months and I think we have the time to talk.

When Carlos takes his decision, he will talk with us. His behaviour is very good, he works very well. He is an important player because he has experience.

In his time at the Etihad Stadium, Tevez has won the FA Cup and the league title, making 128 appearance and scoring 66 goals. This season, Tevez has nine goals in 27 games for City.
