Newcastle have bid for Remy accepted as Pardew eyes reinforcements

Newcastle have had a bid accepted for French international striker Loic Remy, according to the Mail Online.

Loic Remy

The Marseille striker has been identified as one of the Toon Army’s top targets following Senegalese hitman Demba Ba’s departure to Chelsea, and manager Alan Pardew has also hinted that other deals could be concluded soon as well, saying: “It isn’t just one deal that appears to be hotting up — there are three or four and we need that.”

Remy has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, and recently refused to speak with Harry Redknapp when the QPR manager flew to France in an effort to lure the 26-year-old to Loftus Road.

While a move to the Premier League could be appealing to Remy, QPR’s relegation struggle proved to be the deal breaker. Redknapp confirmed: “He didn’t want to come. It doesn’t help when you’re bottom. Players will look at that and if there are other clubs in England after them, it can be difficult.”

Despite Newcastle’s offer being accepted, there will still be a battle for his services. German champions Borussia Dortmund are interested, and are hoping that the lure of Champions League football could be enough to pry the former Nice striker to the Bundesliga from under Newcastle’s noses.
