Van Persie as good as Messi says Man Utd legend Robson

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes that Robin van Persie’s form since his arrival at Old Trafford has taken him to the level of Lionel Messi and former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo.

Robin van Persie

The Daily Star writes that Robson is “in awe” of van Persie’s abilities. The 57-year-old said:

“When he played for Arsenal you could see Robin had that bit of class. He could score a goal out of nothing. But since he’s been at United I’ve appreciated now what all Arsenal fans thought of him, because he’s even better than I thought. His awareness, the way he brings people into the game, it’s just brilliant. He creates goals, he scores goals. And they are all sorts of goals as well – left foot, right foot, headers. His touch on the ball is just terrific.

“For me he is right up there with Ronaldo and Messi since I’ve seen him.”

Robson also believes that United’s bid to regain the Premier League crown, which they lost in such dramatic fashion to bitter rivals Man City last season, will be helped by the absence of the Citizens’ defender Yaya Toure during the African Cup of Nations.

The 29-year-old will be representing the Ivory Coast for this month’s tournament, and Robson believes that the interest lies in seeing how the champions manage without their enforcer.

“It’s going to be ¬interesting in the next few weeks to see how they cope without Yaya Toure because he is a massive part of their game. Even though they have got a lot of very good players in the squad, he is a really top player who can change a game when they need to. It will be interesting to see how they cope,” continued the former Middlesbrough manager.

Meanwhile, van Persie will lead United’s attack when they host old enemies Liverpool at Old Trafford this afternoon.
