Despite widespread criticism from the Chelsea faithful Rafael Benitez believes that his Chelsea side are improving under his management reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Following two home defeats to QPR in the Premier League and Swansea in the Capital One Cup Chelsea showed their class in arguably one of the most difficult away fixtures the Premier League throws up. Stoke had gone 17 home matches undefeated spanning over one calendar year before Chelsea visited the Britannia, inflicting Stoke's heaviest home Premier League defeat since their 2008 promotion; and besides the helping head of an unfortunate Jonathan Walters Benitez felt Chelsea merited their win. 'The team is doing well, the players are happy' said Benitez.

Since Rafa took charge on November the 21st, in their 7 Premier League games, they have conceded only 6 goals, scoring 19 in the process. In the same period of games prior to the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo conceded 11 goals and scored 16 with Benitez pointing to the securing up of the Chelsea rearguard and restoring balance to a previously very attacking team as the key to their improvement. 'The team is doing well, the players are happy', said Benitez. 'We're scoring more goals than in the past, we're conceding half the goals that the team conceded in the past' said the interim Chelsea boss.

Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League table 11 points off first placed Manchester United.
