Chelsea goalkeeper Cech lavishes praise on Lampard

Monday 14 January 2013

Petr Cech has spoken highly of his Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard after the midfielder impressed in the Blues’ 4-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday, with Cech admitting he expects more questions over Lampard’s future as long as Lampard continues to perform at a high level, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Frank Lampard

Lampard scored a penalty to add to a pair of Jonathan Walters own goals - with Eden Hazard scoring the fourth - to give Chelsea a commanding victory at the Britannia Stadium, netting a landmark 194th goal in the process. The successful penalty took Lampard past former Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon in the list of all-time Chelsea goal scorers, with Bobby Tambling, a player between 1959 and 1970 and scorer of 202 goals, now the only name on the list ahead of Lampard.

The Mirror adds that if not for the goalkeeping of Stoke’s Asmir Begovic then Lampard could have had a hat-trick to his name, but instead Lampard had to settle for one, his eighth club goal of the season and fifth goal in his last seven games.

After the match, Cech said: “There are still six months to go to the end of the season. We’ll see at the end of the season whether he stays or not. I don’t know, as I’m not a director, but if he keeps playing like that then obviously he will keep asking about the extension.

When he plays, he plays well with his quality and his experience. This is something that is great to see.
