Tottenham spurred on by memories of last season, says Parker

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker has revealed that he and his teammates have not forgotten about their disappointment at missing out on the Champions League last season, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the England international believes it is a motivating factor for the current campaign.

The Mirror adds that Spurs won only four times in their final 13 games of last season, in the process allowing Arsenal to overtake them and finish third while Tottenham were in fourth, ordinarily a position good enough to deliver a place in the Champions League qualifying stage.

However, Chelsea’s victory in the competition meant Tottenham were forced into the Europa League after the Blues could only finish in sixth in the domestic table.

Tottenham are currently fourth in the table, three points ahead of Everton and six clear of Arsenal, although the Gunners have a game in hand on both sides. Above Spurs sit Chelsea, a single point better off.

Parker said: “Maybe what will happen in the past will stand us in good stead. That is in everyone’s minds because it’s happened before. I just think we can learn as a squad from missing out and stay strong.
