Liverpool v Norwich - Match preview and team news

Friday 18 January 2013

Liverpool welcome an out-of-form Norwich outfit to Anfield with striker Luis Suarez looking to shrug off the diving controversy that has surrounded him in recent ways and attempt to score a third hat-trick in successive games against the Canaries. Norwich meanwhile are without a win in the Premier League since the 15th of December and though still well clear of the relegation places for now, boss Chris Hughton will be mindful of letting their poor run continue for too long.

Anfield

The home-side, who currently lie nine points off their target of a Champions League place, could beef up their attack by selecting Daniel Sturridge alongside Suarez, after the recent signing from Chelsea made an impressive goalscoring cameo off the bench in Manchester United last week to add to his debut goal for the club at Mansfield the week before. Elsewhere, Rodgers must decide whether to continue with Joe Allen, who has struggled in midfield in recent weeks, or bring in Jonjo Shelvey, while Fabio Borini is also pushing for a recall after making a full recovery from a broken foot. Jose Enrqiue (hamstring) and Martin Kelly (knee) are the club’s only absentees.

As for Norwich, Hughton may look to give captain Grant Holt a start after the talismanic striker returned from a troublesome injury against Newcastle last week from the bench. Elsewhere, midfield Jonny Howson is struggling with an illness, while Steve Morison (thigh), Steven Whittaker (thigh), Andrew Surman (knee) and John Ruddy (hip) remain on the injury table.
