Frank Lampard is expected to turn down interest from Lazio and Monaco to join the LA Galaxy when his contract at Premier League side Chelsea expires at the end of the season, the Daily Mail has reported.

Lampard will also reject an approach from Chinese side Ghuizo Renhe to move across the Atlantic Ocean and play in Major League Soccer, where the Mail claims Lampard will earn £4m per year.

The newspaper adds that Lampard first revealed a desire to play in the United States when on tour in North America with Chelsea last summer, information that led to the Galaxy turning away from their pursuit of Real Madrid’s former Milan midfielder Kaka and towards the England international.

Chelsea’s hierarchy have decided not to extend the contract of Lampard, 34, over the wishes of interim manager Rafael Benitez, who, it is claimed, would prefer to see Lampard stay at the club.

Lampard has been at Chelsea since 2001 and recently became the club’s second-highest scorer, surpassing Kerry Dixon, with only Bobby Tambling standing between Lampard and the No. 1 spot.
