Walcott targets trophies after signing Arsenal contract

Having put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half year contract, Theo Walcott has set his sights on winning trophies with Arsenal, the Daily Mail has reported.

Walcott signed his new deal on Friday, ending months of speculation that linked the England international with a move away from the Emirates Stadium as his previous contract entered its final few months.

The terms agreed by Walcott and the Gunners are said to see the former Southampton forward earn around £90,000 per week, with a £3m loyalty bonus. Walcott had previously rejected an offer of £75,000 per week and was said to be holding out for closer to a weekly wage of £100,000.

Arsenal had previously attempted to sell Walcott in the final days of the summer transfer window after the rejection of the club’s first contract offer, with Walcott spending much of the early part of the season as a substitute, seemingly out of the plans of manager Arsene Wenger.

Walcott has however recovered to force his way into Wenger’s plans and has been utilised in his preferred centre-forward position, hitting 14 goals so far this season, the most he has ever scored in a single campaign.

He said: “I have made it clear from the start that I wanted to stay at Arsenal so I am pleased we have agreed a deal that everyone is happy with. What’s important now is for the team to realise its potential and win trophies.
