No Arsenal move for Thauvin claim Bastia
Arsenal have not approached French club Bastia hoping to sign their midfielder Florian Thauvin despite media reports claiming the opposite, according to Sky Sports.
Arsene Wenger has been reportedly keeping tabs on the France U20 international, who has been cited as having a bright footballing future, even been earmarked as a potential star of the future by some quarters.
Thauvin has made only 20 appearances thus far for Corsican-based Bastia, and his club have now moved to deny an approach from North London.
The club released an official statement denying any interest in selling their young starlet. The statement reads: “Sporting Club de Bastia categorically denies the discussions with Arsenal about Florian Thauvin.
"The club does not intend to participate in gossip and fantasies regarding the player moving for completely disproportionate transfer amounts, given the situation of the player and the current prices in the transfer market.”
The Gunners are yet to make any waves in the transfer market since it reopened on January 1st, though they have been linked with various players. Sky Sports speculates that while Thauvin may not provide the Arsenal faithful with the big name signing they crave, his introduction could at least offer further forward options.
Thauvin joined Bastia in 2011 having made three appearances for previous club Grenoble. He also has seven games to his name for France, between U18 – U20 levels.
