Moyes considered as a shock Chelsea candidate

Sunday 20 January 2013

After Pep Guardiola decided on becoming the next Bayern Munich manager in midweek, Chelsea are turning their attentions to a British boss, according to the Daily Telegraph.

David Moyes

Everton’s David Moyes, who was widely tipped to succeed Harry Redknapp at Tottenham last summer, is being monitored by the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge.

Owner Roman Abramovich has to consider other alternatives now that Guardiola has turned down the Premier League for the Bundesliga.

Jose Mourinho is in contention too, but his likely destination is PSG in the summer to replace another former Blues boss in Carlo Ancelotti.

Current incumbent, Rafa Benitez is well-liked by Abramovich, but not by the dismayed supporters and a permanent appointment looks unlikely, especially as the club have only won one home game since he succeeded the popular Roberto Di Matteo in November.

Moyes’s current contract at Everton expires in the summer and he won’t consider an extension until the end of the January transfer window.

The 49-year-old succeeded Walter Smith in the hotseat back in March 2002.
