Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the club never made an approach for coveted Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, reports Sky Sports.

The highly-rated Zaha appears set to be on his way to Manchester United before the transfer window closes, and the Arsenal boss wished him all the best at Old Trafford while denying that the Gunners were ever in for his signature.

Wenger had previously admitted to keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, but insists a firm offer was never made. He said: “If Zaha goes to Man Utd, good luck to him. We were never in for him. Never.

The Frenchman admitted that Arsenal are hoping to reinforce their lot by the end of the month and bring in some new faces, but refused to go as far as to publically identify any potential targets, stating simply: “I will not give you any names. We are working very hard.

One name who did seem to raise the Frenchman’s eyebrow, however, was 25-year-old West Ham defensive midfielder Mohamed Diame. The former Wigan man has been attracting much praise for his performances since arriving at Upton Park last summer, and Wenger was drawn to compliment the player, saying: “He has a great presence in the games, I have seen him have a big impact.
