Newcastle United have completed the signing of Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa as Alan Pardew pushes to tie up two more transfers from Ligue 1 - forward Yoan Gouffran and left-back Massadio Haidara, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Yanga-Mbiwa joins the Magpies for a fee of £7m after a delay in the versatile France international’s medical, while Bordeaux striker Gouffran will cost just over £1m and Nancy defender Haidara more than £3m, the newspaper adds.

Newcastle’s spending is not expected to stop there, either. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko was expected to move to the club at the end of his Toulouse contract this summer but the Premier League side will bring forward his arrival by paying Sissoko’s current club £1m to complete the deal in the current transfer window.

The Telegraph adds that with the purchase of right-back Mathieu Debuchy earlier this month, and the proliferation of Francophone players already at the club, Pardew’s squad will soon contain 14 members who speak French as a first language.

Newcastle are currently two places and as many points above the Premier League’s relegation zone, having lost at home to fellow strugglers Reading last weekend despite taking a first-half lead through Yohan Cabaye, another of Pardew’s signings from across the English Channel.
