The father of Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini has said his son is eager to return to Argentine club San Lorenzo, Sky Sports has reported.

Coloccini's father, Osvaldo Coloccini, who is the current youth team coach at San Lorenzo, says that his son is keen to return to his native Argentina, and that a move should be completed soon for the players sake. “Fabricio is very anxious, he wants a resolution. I think that's it the moment for him to return to San Lorenzo. We want him to come back,” Coloccini added.

Magpies captain Coloccini has informed the club that he wants to return to Argentina and call an end to his five seasons at St James’ Park. The club are keen to hold on to the centre-back till at least the end of the season as they are currently involved in a relegation fight, finding themselves 16th, two points above the relegation zone.

Coloccini has made 21 appearances for the club this season, but has been part of a defence that has kept just four clean sheets from their 23 league games. Newcastle have also recorded just three wins from their last 18 league appearances, plunging the north Easton club into their second relegation battle in five seasons. They were previously relegated at the end of the 2008/09 campaign.

Coloccini Senior continued: “At Newcastle they are telling him to wait until May but the thing is that I don't know if San Lorenzo are going to be able to wait until then.” San Lorenzo's manager Bernardo Romeo also weighed in on the topic, saying: “Let's have faith that the transfer will be done.
