Interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has lamented the missed chances that led to Swansea City winning the Capital One Cup semi-final contest between the two sides, Sky Sports has reported.

The Swans ran out 2-0 winners on aggregate after beating Chelsea by that scoreline at Stamford Bridge and holding their Premier League rivals to a goalless draw in the return meeting at their Liberty Stadium. Michu and Danny Graham made the most of errors by Branislav Ivanovic to put Swansea into the final of a major cup competition for the first time.

Benitez however felt Chelsea had enough chances to change the outcome, both in the home game and the away trip. He said: “When you talk about this competition you have two legs; we didn't take our chances in the first leg and we didn't take our chances in this one.

We didn't start well but after that we had chances. We didn't take the chances and credit to Swansea because they did well. They managed the game well and credit to them, they are in the final and hopefully they will do well.

Benitez added that, by his count, Chelsea had 15 shots but could not make any of them count, calling on his players to improve their goal return ahead of their FA Cup fixture against near neighbours Brentford, which sees Chelsea travel to the home of the League One side, Griffin Park, on Saturday.
