Chelsea's Hazard facing three-game ban after ball boy clash

Chelsea will be without Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard for three games after he was sent off during the Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg against Swansea City for an altercation with a ball boy, as the Daily Mirror reports the Football Association are unlikely to hand down an extended ban despite the unusual nature of the incident.

Referee Chris Foy dismissed Hazard for violent conduct after the former Lille player appeared to kick the ball boy as he attempted to retrieve the ball from underneath the 17-year-old, who had fallen on top of the ball.

Chelsea have said they will deal internally with Hazard, who also stands to be fined two weeks’ wages - £340,000 - for the red card. The FA have the facility to impose a longer ban upon Hazard if they see fit, but the Mirror claims the governing body will keep the suspension at three games. South Wales Police have confirmed, meanwhile, that they have received complaints about the incident from members of the public.

The match saw Swansea hold Chelsea to a goalless draw, booking their place in the League Cup final for the first time in their history having won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first-leg. Bradford City will be the opposition after the League Two side knocked out Premier League Aston Villa, winning 4-3 on aggregate.
