QPR goalkeeper Cesar wanted by Real Madrid after Casillas injury
Queens Park Rangers could be facing a battle to keep hold of goalkeeper Julio Cesar after it emerged the Brazil international is wanted by Real Madrid to deputise for the injured Iker Casillas, the Daily Mail has reported.
Casillas is facing up to two months on the sidelines after suffering a broken hand in the Copa del Rey match against Valencia. Madrid saw off their La Liga rivals to set up a meeting with Barcelona in the next round, after the Catalans defeated Malaga.
Team captain Casillas stands to miss the cup Clasico, however, as well as both legs of the Champions League tie with Manchester United, after being caught on the hand with a kick during a goal-mouth scramble.
Casillas was recently dropped from the Madrid starting XI by Jose Mourinho and his injury will mean a return to the side for Antonio Adan. In the long-term, however, Mourinho is said to be seeking experienced cover for the Spain international, and has turned his attention to QPR’s Cesar, with whom Mourinho worked during their time together at Inter.
Real are understood to be looking for a loan deal but Cesar would insist on a permanent move, the Mail adds, and while QPR would not be keen to lose the in-form stopper, his departure to Spain would allow them to reduce their hefty wage bill, according to the newspaper.
