Wenger denies Arsenal offers
Arsene Wenger has denied that Arsenal have lodged any formal bids with any of their transfer targets, according to Sky Sports.
Despite media reports linking the Gunners with a string of potential signings, Wenger has yet to cement the club’s position in the transfer market during the current window. Examples of such names linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium include Barcelona’s David Villa, Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund, Younes Belhanda of Montpellier and Mohamed Diame from London rivals West Ham.
Speaking of these targets, Wenger said: “We have been linked with David Villa, like Chelsea, but there's nothing concrete there. We are not on the case. I can't imagine Dortmund selling their defenders in the middle of the season anyway and we have not made any approach there.”
Diame has also taken the time to impress upon the media his happiness at West Ham, having arrived at Upton Park from Wigan last summer. Wenger added on the link with Diame: “We cannot come out with the names we are on. We have not approached West Ham on that.”
Wenger also commented that he is not a fan at all of the winter transfer window, saying: “I think it should be all completely cut out or limited to two players. It is unfair for the league that some teams who have played for example now twice Newcastle already have an advantage on teams who play Newcastle now they have bought six or seven players.
“You do not face exactly the same team so I believe the number of players you could buy should be limited.”
