Redknapp keen to keep Cesar and Green at QPR
Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has slapped “Not For Sale” tags on the heads of goalkeepers Rob Green and Julio Cesar, reports Sky Sports.
Redknapp is a huge admirer of both goalkeepers and considers the club lucky to have two such high quality custodians, but both keepers have reportedly been targeted elsewhere.
Former Inter stopper Julio Cesar has been targeted by Real Madrid following an injury to their stalwart Iker Casillas, and Nottingham Forest have lined up England keeper Green as a replacement for the recently departed Lee Camp.
Both have proved their worth to the Loftus Road club in recent weeks, with a string of fine performances from both individuals keeping their fading Premier League survival hopes alive and maintaining an FA Cup run, and Redknapp remains resolute in his stance that both players will remain at the club. He also denies that an approach has been made by Real enquiring about the prospect of taking Cesar to the Spanish champions.
He said: “I don't want to sell Cesar or Green. They're two good quality keepers. They're our backbone. We need to keep them here. Cesar is a top keeper and you can understand why people would want him, but we've not had any enquiries.”
Indeed, Redknapp is looking to add to his squad rather than sell his players, and recently admitted interest in South Korea defender Yun Suk Young. He stated: “I can't let anybody go unless we get some players in. We need to strengthen, not weaken the side and we have been trying.”
With January taking its toll on Redknapp, the former Spurs boss took the time to lighten the mood somewhat, adding: “I haven't been home for 12 days. (My wife) Sandra said she'd forgotten what I look like. I said I look like Paul Newman. In my dreams! ”
