Unhappy Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini looks set to be staying at the club until at least the end of the season.

While the Magpies have been busy recruiting from France, the issue of Coloccini’s desire to leave for his homeland in Argentina has not been forgotten, reports the Guardian.

Although there had been reports that he had walked out on the squad in midweek, Coloccini was seen at the Magpies’ Little Benton training complex on Thursday.

A potential move back to San Lorenzo, one of his former clubs, collapsed on Wednesday due to the transfer fee Newcastle requested - they asked for £7m before they would sell their captain.

Further talks between Coloccini and Alan Pardew are expected over the weekend, and it is yet unclear whether he will take to the field on Tuesday for the relegation battle with Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Pardew has also hinted that he will not make any more acquisitions from France, but is considering making a bid for Birmingham stopper Jack Butland.
