Arsenal defender Jenkinson a loan target for Premier League clubs
Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson is wanted on loan by as many as four Premier League clubs, the Daily Mirror reports, but it is in no way certain that manager Arsene Wenger will let the player leave. Stoke City, West Ham, Wigan and Fulham are the interested parties.
The newspaper claims the Potters have made an enquiry into the availability of Jenkinson, as have the 20-year-old’s other three suitors, but Wenger is reluctant to let the England international go as he feels he will have a role to play in the Arsenal first team before the end of the season.
Jenkinson established himself in the Arsenal team earlier in the season, deputising for the injured Bacary Sagna, and although the Frenchman has returned to fitness and re-taken his place in the side, the Mirror says his form has been sketchy and he may not be at the Emirates Stadium by the start of next season.
Arsenal and Sagna have thus far been unable to agree on an extension to the full-back’s contract, which has 18 months to run, and Serie A side Inter and a host of clubs in the Middle East are watching the situation closely with a view to a summer transfer.
Those factors could combine to give Jenkinson another run in the team but only if he remains at the club this month. The former Charlton Athletic defender signed a long-term extension to his contract at Arsenal shortly before Christmas.
