Liverpool keen to cash in on Coates

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to sell defensive misfit Sebastian Coates in the next 72 hours.

Sebastian Coates

The Daily Mirror reports that the Northern Irish boss would like to dispense with the young Uruguayan’s services at Anfield, and replace him with another central defender as cover for Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel.

Coates has rarely played for the Reds since moving last summer, and has struggled to earn a regular place in the Liverpool starting 11, scoring twice in just 21 appearances.

Rodgers is keen to make a move for reliable Swansea centre half Ashley Williams, and hopes that the Brazilian club Gremio will stump up the £7m asking price within the next 72 hours.

Coates has been linked with a loan move to Juventus, while paper speculation has West Brom lining up a shock bid for the 22-year-old.

With Jamie Carragher still going strong in a rotational position, it does look like Coates will be surplus to requirements at Anfield before the shutting of the transfer window on Thursday.
