Liverpool close to Coutinho deal
Inter Milan midfielder Phillipe Coutinho could soon be a Liverpool player, reports The Daily Star.
Chiefs at the Anfield club are flying to Milan after the club’s FA Cup tie with Oxford, and look set to thrash out personal terms with the player on 28th January.
Assuming these discussions go well, the player will undergo a medical in Liverpool early next week and will then join the club for a rumoured transfer fee of around £8.5m.
The player had also been courted by fellow Premier League outfit Southampton, who were willing to pay up to £10m in order to reunite the player with Saints’ new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who took the 20-year-old to Espanyol during his stint at the helm in 2012.
The player made it clear that Anfield was his preferred destination, however, and should have no problems obtaining a work permit.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is delighted to be finally getting his man in the transfer saga, with the club having had to improve their previous £7.6m bid. The former Swansea manager said of the deal: “The owners have been brilliant in supporting me. We all agreed that this was a month when we would try to reinforce if we could.”
