Begovic keen on Man Utd link

Sunday 27 January 2013

Highly-rated Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic has his heart set on a summer move to Man United, according to The Mirror.

 Asmir Begovic

The £15m-rated goalkeeper has also received interest from United’s rivals Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool, but is thought to favour a move to Old Trafford with present United keepers David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard struggling to enforce the security between the sticks that has been characteristic of the Red Devils throughout Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.

The Mirror also believes that Begovic would have more chance of playing ahead of de Gea and Lindegaard than he would at Man City, with England stopper Joe Hart proving a popular figure at the City of Manchester Stadium, though his form has been questioned at points this season. Roberto Mancini is thought to be interested in bringing Begovic to the blue half of Manchester to provide some top-class competition for Hart.

Friends of the Bosnian international claim that he is “particularly excited” about United’s interest, but has reservations relating to City’s efforts.

The player’s current contract at Stoke runs until 2016, and manager Tony Pulis is reluctant to lose the 25-year-old, having signed him from Portsmouth for £3m in 2010. During that time, Begovic has made 78 appearances for the Potters, and has won the majority of his 17 international caps during his stay at the Britannia Stadium.
