Cole was frustrated in Chelsea’s Brentford draw, claims Bees striker

Brentford forward Clayton Donaldson has revealed that he could hear Ashley Cole air his frustration over a number of topics during Chelsea’s FA Cup draw with the Bees, according to the Daily Mirror.

Ashley Cole with Fernando Torres

Donaldson played on the right wing against the Premier League side, despite having 19 goals to his name so far this season, and found himself in close proximity to the England left-back. Donaldson claimed after the match that Cole spent much of the fixture mumbling about the performance of his teammates.

He was always mumbling something, always mumbling stuff quietly but I could hear what he was saying,” Donaldson said, adding: “He was just getting frustrated. He was saying about the forward players not showing and 'he needs to be there'. You could just see straight away that he was getting frustrated - that was a good thing.

Brentford took a first-half lead in the match through Marcello Trotta, only to be pegged back after half-time by Brazil international Oscar. The League One side though again went in front courtesy of a Harry Forrester penalty, only for Fernando Torres to equalise and take the game to a replay at Stamford Bridge.

The second meeting between the sides is scheduled for February 17, the Mirror adds, sandwiched between Chelsea’s two-legged Europa League tie with Sparta Prague. The Champions League holders travel to the Czech Republic on February 14 then welcome Sparta to London on February 21.
