Tottenham plan late Damiao bid
Tottenham are planning a late transfer window swoop for Brazil international Leandro Damiao, according to The Daily Star.
With Spurs’ options up front looking somewhat restricted, a fact highlighted by their FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship outfit Leeds, manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add the 23-year-old striker to his squad ahead of Thursday’s end of the transfer window.
With Jermain Defoe injured and Emmanuel Adebayor away on African Cup of Nations duty, Spurs are hopeful of bringing a new face in, and the £20m-rated Damiao fits Villas-Boas’ bill.
The manager has been keen on bringing Damiao to White Hart Lane for some time, but has reportedly seen numerous efforts to land the striker rebuffed by his club Internacional. While publically AVB has stated that he remains happy with the striking options he has at his disposal, The Daily Star believes that chiefs at the club have continued their work behind the scenes to attempt to lure the 2012 Olympics top scorer to North London.
Spurs’ latest move could see them offer goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes plus cash. Gomes himself is a former Brazil international, having won 11 caps for the five-time world champions between 2003-2010.
Should Spurs fail to land Damiao, who has scored 28 goals in 72 appearances for Internacional, it is thought they could still turn their attentions to Seville’s Spanish international striker Alvaro Negredo.
