Arsenal boss Wenger looking for a left-back after Gibbs injury

Arsene Wenger will spend transfer deadline day pursuing a left-back to bring to Arsenal after Kieran Gibbs was ruled out of action for a month, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Gibbs had to be withdrawn after half an hour of the 2-2 draw with Liverpool after suffering a thigh strain and is expected to miss at least the next three weeks, during which time Arsenal play a number of Premier League fixtures, the fifth round of the FA Cup and the first-leg of their Champions League double header with Bayern Munich.

Andre Santos was brought on to replace Gibbs but Wenger wants extra cover to stand in for England international Gibbs, rather than relying on the Brazilian Santos. Wenger said: “ I’ll see what I can do. It is a thigh strain and that rules him out for the next three weeks.

Of course it is a big blow because Gibbs was a big player for us going forward and in the game we want to play it is a shame he is out for three weeks.

The match saw Liverpool take a two-goal lead through Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson, the latter effort coming in the 60th minute, only to hit back through Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott less than 10 minutes later.

Wenger added: “We could have lost the game but we could have won it by three or four goals difference. That shows we created many, many chances going forward but we were nervous defensively.
