Bergkamp lined up to replace Brady at Arsenal
Former Arsenal forward Dennis Bergkamp could be set for a return to the Gunners as Liam Brady looks for someone to fill his role in the club’s youth set-up ahead of his departure in 2014, the Daily Mail has reported.
Bergkamp is thought to be an early candidate for the position having worked in the academy at Ajax, impressing the Dutch club’s hierarchy so much he was appointed as assistant to first team coach Frank de Boer, the Mail adds.
Brady earlier this week announced he would be stepping down from his position as head of youth development next year and will help the club search for and appoint his successor. Bergkamp is said to be high on the club’s wanted list as a result not only of his work at Ajax but also his good standing as an ex-Arsenal player.
Bergkamp moved to Highbury in 1995, signed by Arsene Wenger’s predecessor Bruce Rioch, after a spell at Serie A side Inter. He spent more than a decade in north London, winning the Premier League title three times and the FA Cup four times, making more than 400 appearances for Arsenal and scoring 120 goals.
