January transfer deadline day 2013 - How it happened

Bookmark and Share

By A Different League staff

Thursday 31 January 2013

Welcome to A Different League's coverage of the January 2013 transfer deadline day.

Another transfer window comes to a conclusion. West Ham have kept the much sought after Mo Diame, Arsenal signed a Spanish international full-back, no-one panic bought Yossi Benayoun, Tottenham failed to sign a striker, John Stones got his big move to Everton, Mario Balotelli joined his boyhood club Milan, Beckham joined the Paris project, Villa added depth in midfield, and Celtic kept hold of Gary Hooper. And spare a thought for Peter Odemwingie after his performance today - he's going to be feeling a little silly in the morning as he prepares for training with West Brom.

David Beckham

23:21 - And we'll end our coverage here - thanks for following deadline day with A Different League. You can read our summary of the day above. I've been Tim Doel, many thanks to Andrew Tuft and Bradley King who took us through today.

23:05 - That didn't take too long - Nacho Monreal has completed his move to Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be up to £10m, from Malaga. The signing ensures Andre Santos does not need to play while Kieran Gibbs is out injured for three weeks with a thigh strain.

23:00 - Its 11:00, the January transfer window SLAMS shut - in the next 15/20 minutes we should see some final deals coming through - Did Arsenal complete their move for Monreal in time? Did Spurs buy during 'Levy time'? and were any transfers done without letting the media in on the act? We'll find out soon enough.

23:00 - THE TRANSFER WINDOW IS NOW CLOSED

22:54 - John Stones, new full-back signing for Everton, talks to Sky after completing his transfer:

"I'm very happy to be here, it's a great club, a great manager, I can't wait to get started. I feel I can learn from these great players and the manager."

22:50 - As it stands Peter Odemwingie is set to go back, tail between legs, to West Brom training tomorrow morning.

22:44 - Newcastle have confirmed that they have released striker Xisco on a free transfer. He signed for an initial £5.7m in 2008, but only made nine appearances for the Magpies, spending loan spells at Racing Santander and Deportivo. Alan Pardew, in November, considered Xisco for use in his squad, saying: "For the first time since I have been here, he has shown signs of life." His career for Newcastle however, has now come to the end of it's life.

22:29 - To confirm this, Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan tells Sky:

"No (Diame) bid today from any club, let alone one which invokes his release clause."

22:28 - We're also hearing many sources suggesting that the much reported bid that met Mo Diame's minimum release clause at West Ham does not exist - I guess we'll find out soon enough - 36 minutes are left on the clock.

We've also officially entered 'Levy Time'.

22:24 - Phil McNulty at the BBC reports that Everton have completed the signing of Barnsley right-back John Stones for £3m. The player signs a five and a half year deal.

22:16 - Some news from Italy, Mario Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola has revealed that Manchester City received a bid from Paris Saint-Germain in the Summer for the new Milan striker, but the club refused it.

22:09 - Jermaine Jenas completes a permanent move from Tottenham to QPR.

22:05 - We're also still awaiting the confirmation that Barnsley right-back John Stones will sign for Everton - the youngster is currently having a medical.

22:02 - Aston Villa confirm the loan signing of Simon Dawkins from Tottenham. The 25-year-old signs after a two year loan spell in the MLS with San Jose Earthquakes.

22:00 - ONE HOUR OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO GO

21:47 - It is looking increasingly unlikely that Tottenham will sign Leandro Damiao, with Sky reporting the deal is all but off. No alternatives being reported either, as talk of a move for Lisandro Lopez has quietened throughout the day.

21:34 - Regardless of whether or not there has been a bid for Diame, West Ham have let Alou Diarra go on loan to Rennes until the end of the season.

21:23 - Conspicuous by his absence in recent discussions, Gary Hooper looks set to stay at Celtic unless a late deal can be done with Norwich. Four offers rejected so far.

21:13 - Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles says that despite Shakhtar accepting a £31m offer from Anzhi, Willian may reject the move in favour of a Summer move. I remember his interview in Fourfourtwo last month - the player was very keen on a move to the Premier League, waxing lyrical about Chelsea and Tottenham.

21:05 - Here's what we're looking out for in the next couple of hours. Peter Odemwingie's move from West Brom to QPR is up in the air at the moment - the player is near Loftus Road ready for the go-ahead to sign a deal. We expect Nacho Monreal to complete his move to Arsenal for a fee up to £10m. Mo Diame could be set for an exit after West Ham received a bid that matched his release clause, apparently from a London club - we'll see if he makes the exit he has been looking for. And as we enter 'Levy time', Spurs are still in negotiations with Internacional over Leandro Damiao, although an agreement between the clubs looks far from close. Villa meanwhile, are set to complete a loan deal for MLS player Simon Dawkins.

21:00 - TWO HOURS OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO GO

20:52 - One or two rumours going around that Everton are the club to have made the bid for Diame. Liverpool also mentioned.

20:48 - A lull of sorts in the craziness that is the final day of the January transfer window. Reports suggest the bid for Diame could also be Chelsea - Spurs however offloaded Jermaine Jenas earlier today. A bit harsh isn't it, activating a release clause with two hours to go!

20:36 - Sunday Mirror's Matt Law reports that the likely Villa target from the MLS could be Simon Dawkins, who had been on loan from Spurs at San Jose Earthquakes in 2012.

20:26 - West Ham have received an offer that triggers the release clause of Mo Diame, Sky Sports are reporting. Arsenal? Tottenham? QPR? We'll find out soon.

20:23 - Liverpool midfielder Suso rules out a loan switch to Wigan, telling Sky:

"I'm making clear that I'm not going on loan to Wigan. I'm really happy in Liverpool."

20:20 - Tottenham have just announced that youngster Ryan Mason has joined French Ligue One club Lorient on loan until the end of the season.

20:15 - The Twittersphere is significantly underwhelmed by Aston Villa's revelation that a 'promising MLS player' is set to join on loan tonight. What's more, very few suggestions. Is Robbie Keane 'promising'? Sounds more like a youngster... and I think Villa have one or two of those.

20:10 - Ok, so Odemwingie is clearly desperate for his move to QPR - but according to all reports, West Brom are standing firm. Deal not dead, but small factors like agreement between the clubs still need to be finalised.

20:05 - Sky claim Spurs are in talks over a £17m deal for Leandro Damiao - Tottenham starting negotiations early this year.

20:03 - Peter Odemwingie may well be in talks with QPR - but he hasn't been given permission claim West Brom! I'm sure we'll hear more of this soon.

20:00 - THREE HOURS OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO GO

19:57 - Sky's Chris Skudder tweets that the Monreal move to Arsenal is near completion - can't see much standing in the way of this one. Happy Arsenal fans?

19:52 - Aston Villa and their cryptic messages! Well, we're learning more, and here is the latest tweet from Villa, giving a clue as to a possible new signing:

"The club is looking to do a loan deal with a promising player who has recently done well in MLS. #AVFC"

The question is, will this player be older than 22? Tweet us your suggestions for who this could be.

19:50 - Bolton have signed Cian Bolger from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee, while Everton are closing in on Barnsley right-back John Stones, who is completing a medical for the Merseyside club.

19:39 - Still hoping your club will pull a rabbit out of the hat? Let us know who you want @Different League.

19:33 - Despite Harry Redknapp's desire to bring Peter Crouch back to London, the former Spurs player will be staying at Stoke City.

Potential new recruit for QPR, Peter Odemwingie has been talking to Sky:

"I'm not disappointed with West Brom, but this is a new chapter in my life, I loved my time with West Brom. I'm very excited about playing for QPR, everyone wants to see if I can make it, and I'm happy with the trust the manager (Redknapp) has shown in me."

19:24 - Cryptic message by the Aston Villa Twitter account:

Lights still on at Bodymoor Heath. One more deal still to be done? Stay tuned. #AVFC

Doubt it, it's probably a security measure.

19:22 - West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie may well get his much desired move to QPR - he is at Loftus Road, although the deal is not yet complete. I'm sure we'll find out more when he has a moment to tweet.

19:15 - Spurs fans - Sky Sports report that the Leandro Damiao deal is still in negotiation. It's not dead yet despite reports to the contrary earlier in the afternoon.

19:13 - We'll be keeping Arsenal fans up-to-date with the progress of their pursuit of Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal - Fees of up to £10m have been rumoured - that is how much Arsene Wenger does not want to play Andre Santos while Kieran Gibbs is out for three weeks. More information here.

Nacho Monreal

19:09 - Fulham have just announced the signing of Bulgarian right-back Stanislav Manolev on loan until the end of the season, with an option to continue that for a further two years.

19:05 - Liverpool have confirmed that goalkeeper Alexander Doni, who was released earlier today, has joined Botafogo in Brazil.

19:00 - Ha, and he's not joking - Many thanks to Andrew Tuft and Bradley King for guiding us through a veritable smorgasbord of transfer negotiations, done deals, and a healthy serving of agent fuelled nonsense.

With Balotelli and Beckham the leading lights of deadline day, can we add any more big names to the list of movers as we enter the final four hours of the January transfer deadline day, 2013. I'm Tim Doel and i'll be keeping you up with the latest.

18:55 - Tim Doel will be here soon to see the transfer window through to its 11pm close. If the name Leandro Damiao comes up and he has a breakdown, or maybe starts swearing in Italian, just bear with him. Thanks!

18:53 And Paul Robinson won’t be leaving Blackburn for the Hammers either.

18:52 - Warnock turned down West Ham to move to Leeds on a free, it appears.

18:47 That Stephen Warnock deal to Leeds from Aston Villa has been confirmed by the Midlands club.

18:40 - Former Arsenal and England defender Matthew Upson is close to a move to Championship side Brighton from Stoke, say the Daily Telegraph.

Stoke would then go for Blackburn centre-back Scott Dann as a replacement and want Bolton left-back Marcos Alonso, too.

18:35 - Some transfer tidbits: Aston Villa in talks with Stoke over Wilson Palacios. And QPR’s refusal to let Junior Hoilett go to West Brom could bring about the collapse of Jerome Thomas’ switch to Blackburn.

18:30 - Talk of a swap between West Brom and QPR for Peter Odemwingie and Junior Hoilett has been brushed off by R’s owner Tony Fernandes, who wrote on Twitter:

Junior Hoillet not going anywhere. He is a key player for the future. Needs a good run in the team.

18:27 - Blackburn have signed a slew of attackers today, and now they’ve let one leave - Jordan Slew has gone on loan to Rotherham.

Yes, I included that one just to do the slew/Slew thing. Sorry.

18:21 - Leeds are expected to announce shortly the signing of Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock, joining his uncle Neil at Elland Road.

Ok, they're not actually related.

18:17 - It was said that Leroy Fer’s move to Everton was 99% dead last night. Then earlier this evening there was talk of the 1% coming to fruition, but Twente chairman Joop Munsterman has put a stop to that.

He’s told the Dutch press that there’s no chance Fer moves to Goodison Park this evening. The BBC’s Phil McNulty has tweeted as much too.

18:12 - United States football site Soccer By Ives is reporting that Brek Shea has been granted a work permit and completed his move to Stoke.

18:08 - One from the ‘you couldn’t make it up file’, care of James Horncastle:

Sky Italia are now reporting that Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has in fact boarded a flight to London thinking that he's on his way for talks with Fulham.

"He's apparently expected to land at London Heathrow at 1910. Unbeknownst to Stekelenburg, 35,000ft below, Roma have stopped the deal. Pity the man who has to break it to him at arrivals.

18:05 - Shakhtar Donetsk have accepted Anzhi’s massive bid for Willian, reports in Italy say.

18:02 Midlands-based journalist Chris Lepkowski says West Brom are open to swapping want-away striker Peter Odemwingie for QPR winger Junior Hoilett. Odemwingie is on his way to London now for talks.

Hoilett may move to the Hawthorns on an initial loan deal.

18:00 - FIVE HOURS OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO GO

17:57 - All quiet on the Mohamed Diame front, isn’t it?

17:53 - Chris Baird is in talks with West Brom over a move from Fulham.

17:51 - This is how fast things can change. Earlier it appeared Maarten Stekelenburg was leaving Roma for Fulham But James Horncastle has told the BBC that Roma have pulled out of the deal because the Italian transfer window shuts at 6pm UK time and they won’t be able to get a replacement before then.

Just on the Monreal to Arsenal deal - he’s cup-tied for the Champions League, having played for Malaga who remain in the competition. Arsenal meet Bayern Munich, Malaga play Porto.

17:49 - More movement at QPR, this time out of the door. DJ Campbell looks like joining Blackburn, who’ve also signed Anton Forrester from Everton in the last few days and are close to taking Jerome Thomas from West Brom.

17:43 - The on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again, repeat ad nauseum, transfer of Leandro Damiao to Tottenham appears to be off again. No, really, contain your surprise.

Sky Sports News say it is “increasingly unlikely” the Brazilian moves to White Hart Lane.

17:32 - Lots of chatter about Everton being back in for Leroy Fer. The move broke down yesterday when the Toffees got a look at the midfielder’s knee and saw something that bothered them.

They asked Twente if they could renegotiate the terms of the transfer and were told where they could stick their renegotiation and, as of yesterday, the move was dead in the water.

But as the clock ticks towards 11pm the Dutch club are said to be moving towards a compromise, which would open the door for Fer to move to Goodison Park.

This one has all the hallmarks of a 10.59pm special.

17:28 - Arsene Wenger said after Kieran Gibbs was injured against Liverpool that he was thinking of going for a left-back today and he may have got his man.

Dermot Corrigan, a Madrid-based journalist, has said via AS that Malaga defender Nacho Monreal is heading for London to complete a 10m euro move to Arsenal.

That’s how much Wenger is willing to spend to keep Andre Santos out of the team.

17:20 - Alan Pardew splurged on a load of Frenchmen last week (what a mental image that is) but he’s turned his attentions a little further afield today. Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Swiss teenager Kevin Mbabu from Servette for an undisclosed fee. He’s a 17-year-old centre-back.

17:16 - Everton are deep in talks to sign Barnsley right-back John Stones, Greg O’Keefe of the Liverpool Echo has said. He’s one for the future, an England Under-19 international.

Stone has also been linked with Wigan today but there was a suggestion he was stalling over a move to the Latics to wait and see if Everton upped their interest. David Moyes said earlier this week he was still looking for a right-back, having played centre-back Phil Jagielka there on Wednesday in the win over West Brom.

17:12 - European football journalist James Horncastle has pointed out via Gazzetta Dello Sport that Roma goalkeeper Maarten Steklenburg is on his way to Fulham for talks over a transfer.

17:10 - It seems Wigan’s move for Aiden McGeady broke down because the player changed his mind, preferring to stay at Spartak Moscow rather than head for the Premier League, the Mirror’s man in the North West, Alan Nickson, has hinted.

17:06 - Jermaine Jenas is QPR to finalise a loan move from Tottenham, Sky Sports say. Re-united with his old Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, Jenas’ career could do with a kick-start.

17:00 - Thanks again to Bradley King for the best return this side of Paul Scholes.

I’m back for a few hours until Tim Doel takes over for the duration.

So far today we’ve heard from an English midfielder now based in France and, shockingly, it’s not Joey Barton.

No, David Beckham is a Paris Saint-Germain player until the end of June, moving to Ligue 1 on a free transfer.

Free is the operative word, too, as Beckham said at the press conference that he’ll donate the salary he would have earned from PSG to a children’s charity.

Away from Beckham-mania Christopher Samba has joined QPR but Peter Crouch won’t be following him in what would have been the tallest pair of signings perhaps ever.

Crouch will soon have a new teammate at Stoke, Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland. A £4m move should be completed before close of play, although the England international will stay with the Blues on loan until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli to Milan, Danny Graham to Sunderland and Yacouba Sylla to Aston Villa are just a few of the deals done on deadline day.

16:55 - It's nearly 5pm! Quick, cram as many substandard strikers into your shopping basket as possible and run!

Well, not quite. You still have six hours left, Premier League clubs. Here to see you through the next couple of hours is Andrew Tuft. Be nice to him and send him and @DifferentLeague a nice tweet. Enjoy this crazy evening.

16:52 - After signing Danny Graham earlier, Sunderland have decided to trim their squad by releasing veteran striker Louis Saha. Saha made 11 appearances in the Premier League from the Black Cats bench but his departure has been confirmed by Sunderland's official Twitter account

16:50 - Away from the Beckham circus, it looks like Everton are ready to challenge Wigan Athletic for the signing of impressive young right-back John Stones. Wigan have apparently had a bid of £3million accepted but the Toffees have also been giving permission to speak to Stones, according to Sky sources.

16:44 - David Beckham has finally emerged at the press conference to announce his signature at PSG. He'll be joining on a deal until the summer. "I haven't spoken French since I was at school...but I'm excited. It's something we've been talking about for a while," says Beckham.

16:37 - Some news away from the transfer window - Chelsea will be boosted by the news that Eden Hazard will not have his three-match ban for violent conduct, handed out after the infamous incident with a ball boy insistent on gamesmanship, increased.

16:29 - Wigan Athletic were on the verge of signing winger Aidan McGeady from Spartak Moscow for £5million. However that deal will now not go ahead - the reasons are, as yet, unclear. But that is a blow for the Latics.

16:26 - A horde of flashing cameras and overzealous reporters are waiting for the emergence of David Beckham at his first press conference as a Paris Saint-Germain player. It was scheduled for 4pm but he hasn't yet appeared in front of the cameras in France's capital.

16:17 - According to Dan Roan of BBC Sport, Swansea attempted to replace Danny Graham, who left for Sunderland earlier today, with Manchester City's highly-rated striker John Guidetti. Their loan offer was rebuffed by Roberto Mancini though as the City manager doesn't expect to be replacing the departed Mario Balotelli, meaning Guidetti is bumped up the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium. Swansea remain keen to bring in a forward as they're very light in that department now.

16:11 - Anzhi certainly aren't shedding too many tears over the departure of Christopher Samba earlier today, shelling out £34million of their own money on one-time Chelsea target Willian. Personal terms are yet to be agreed but the Brazilian playmaker looks like he's heading to Russia.

16:04 - Aston Villa have finally added to their squad in this transfer window, putting the final stamp on a deal to secure the services of France under-21 international Yacouba Sylla. "I think he’ll do well. Hopefully, he adapts quickly and gives us something to complement the guys around him," Paul Lambert has told the club's the club's Twitter account.

16:02 - Queens Park Rangers are doing plenty of business today. Ale Faurlin has left for Seria A side Palermo on loan for the rest of the season, according to the club's Twitter account.

15:58 - QPR manager Harry Redknapp takes the unorthodox route of doing an interview outside of his car and says that it looks like the Peter Crouch deal is dead, as Tony Pulis wants to keep the player at Stoke City. Redknapp does say that there is still the possibility of one or two deals being done before the 11pm deadline.

15:55 - Former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell is asked by Sky Sports news presenter Kirsty Gallacher what new signing Paul Scharner will bring to the club. "Lunacy," replies Jewell, before clarifying that he was referring to the man himself and not the quality of Roberto Martinez's recruitment skills.

15:48 - Stoke City have already welcomed Jack Butland to the the club, and American international Break Shea may follow, pending the decision of an appeal at Wembley this afternoon, but there is news of one departure. The BBC's Juliette Ferrington reports that long-throw connoisseur Rory Delap is on his way to Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

15:44 - Sky Sports are reporting that Peter Odemwingie's switch from West Brom to Queens Park Rangers is back on after the Nigerian had talks with the Baggies' technical director Dan Ashworth. Surely there's no room for both Odemwingie and Peter Crouch at Loftus Road?

15:35 - *twiddles thumbs* It all seems to have gone a little bit quiet. How would you like to see some photos of David Beckham heading to his medical at Paris Saint-Germain? Here you go. He has passed that medical by the way, so that move is getting closer.

David Beckham

David Beckham

David Beckham

15:22 - It looks like Harry Redknapp might wave that magic wand again this afternoon. There's been a flurry of bets on the Queens Park Rangers manager reuniting with Peter Crouch as had been previously touted. As a result, Sky Bet have altered their odds on Crouch joining QPR, and he is now odds-on to head to London.

15:15 - Blimey. All this transfer talk seems to have broken Twitter. Too many people are popping on to tell us who they've spotted in their local petrol station.

15:13 - One area where we might have expected movement was with Darren Bent at Aston Villa but it's been very quiet on that front. It looks like he's going to be staying at Villa Park for a bit-part role in a relegation battle.

15:04 - We have news of a done deal. Sky Sports are reporting that Stoke City have signed highly-rated English goalkeeper Jack Butland from Birmingham City in a deal believed to be worth £5million. The move will see Butland return to the Blues on loan for the rest of the season.

15:00 - Hello again, ladies and gentlemen, Bradley King here again. What have I missed?

Well, boyhood Newcastle United fan Danny Graham seems to have sold his soul by joining bitter rivals Sunderland from Swansea City while the Leandro Damiao to Tottenham rumours are back. It should be an eventful few hours.

14:55 - It’s nearly 3pm, which means two things - there’s eight hours of the transfer window left, and Bradley King will be here for the next few hours.

In that time David Beckham’s move to Paris Saint-Germain should be confirmed - a press conference is to be held at 4pm - 5pm local time - where the former England captain will be presented to the media.

14:45 - More on Doni leaving Liverpool: the BBC’s Ben Smith says he’s bound for Brazilian side Botafogo. No movement on Blackpool wingerTom Ince’s proposed switch to Anfield, though.

14:40 - Just way from the transfer window for a moment, Roy Hodgson has named the England squad to play Brazil in a friendly next month.

14:30 - Danny Graham has had a few things to say after leaving Swansea for Sunderland.

Graham’s move raised eyebrows on Wearside when quotes he gave to the Watford programme were brought up, when he, well, made it clear that he didn’t want to play for Sunderland, to put it mildly.

He’s said: “I totally understand that some fans might need convincing about my commitment to Sunderland because of my roots but I've always given 100% no matter what team I play for and no matter who I play against. It's up to me to show people I deserve to wear the Sunderland shirt and I’m excited about playing for a club as big as this

14:21 - Double dose of news/rumour from Merseyside. Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson says Liverpool have cancelled the contract of goalkeeper Doni, allowing him to sign for a new club on a free transfer outside the window.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Stanley Park, after missing out on Alvaro Negredo, Everton could turn to Betis striker Ruben Castro.

14:10 - Danny Graham has moved from Swansea to Sunderland. More here.

14:06 - Bad news for Everton. They’ve been chasing Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla but the Liverpool Echo has quoted the striker’s agent as saying the move to Goodison Park is “impossible”.

14:00 - Further to rumours from Italy that Tottenham were trying to resurrect their long-running bid for Leandro Damiao, the Guardian’s Daniel Taylor has said: “Tottenham definitely trying again today to resurrect a deal for Brazilian striker Damiao

13:55 - It looks like Harry Redknapp will have to go on pining for Peter Crouch for a while longer. After having the Stoke player at Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham, Redknapp wanted to take him to QPR as well, but the Independent has reported that Redknapp doesn’t expect the deal to happen now.

13:50 - The BBC have confirmed Stoke’s bid for Jack Butland, the Birmingham goalkeeper. The deal would see the England international remain with the Championship club on loan for the rest of the season.

13:40 - Kieron Dyer will try to resurrect his career at Middlesbrough, say North East newspaper the Journal. Perennially injury-hit, Dyer left QPR in December.

13:34 - Albion have competition though. The Daily Mirror’s John Cross says Diarra is Rennes-bound, on loan, with a £2m transfer at the end of the season

13:27 - West Brom could give Alou Diarra a way out of West Ham, the Birmingham Mail has reported.

The Baggies saw George Thorne stretchered off in the defeat to Everton last night so could be looking for a quick fix in midfield, and Diarra’s been pretty vocal at how unhappy he is at Upton Park.

13:21 - Football Italia have more on Urby Emanuelson’s move to Fulham, on loan from Milan.

13.15 - It wouldn’t be a transfer window without Leandro Damiao being linked with Tottenham. Ice ages have come and gone since the Brazil striker was first rumoured to be on his way to White Hart Lane.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reckons Spurs have bid 20m euros for the Internacional player today.

13:12 - So. David Beckham is going to PSG. Mario Balotelli has gone to Milan. Christopher Samba has gone to QPR and Luciano Becchio is a Norwich player - just a few of the deals done or nearly done so far today.

13:05 Liverpool starlet Dani Pacheco has left Anfield on loan. He’ll spend the rest of the season with Spanish second division side SD Huesca, the Liverpool Echo is reporting.

13:00 - 10 HOURS OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO GO

12:53 - Urby Emanuelson joins Fulham from Milan on loan.

12:47 - Belgian football exept John Chapman has told A Different League that any rumours of Everton making a renewed bid for Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe are solely the preserve of the British press.

Vadis - as he would inevitably be known on Merseyside - nearly went to Goodison Park in the summer window but the move broke down. His agent watched Everton beat West Brom last night, but he also represents Kevin Mirallas, who played an hour of the 2-1 win.

12:43 - Aston Villa will sign defensive midfielder Yacouba Sylla from Clermont Foot for £2m, the BBC say. He’s tweeted a picture of himself wearing a Villa shirt.

Any Villa fans hoping for an experienced old hand to guide their team out of trouble might be disappointed - he’s 22.

12.34 - There’s a picture doing the rounds on Twitter of Danny Graham in a Sunderland shirt in what looks like a photo op at the Stadium of Light.

The striker has been a target for the Black Cats for most of the window after falling behind Michu at Swansea, so expect confirmation of that one any moment. Will Michael Laudrup get a replacement in before 11pm?

12:27 - Christopher Samba is a QPR player. The club’s official Twitter feed has confirmed the signing.

It's a club record fee, they add, on a four-and-a-half year contract, and he'll wear the No. 5 shirt.

12:22 - The future of Jack Butland has been the subject of much speculation the last few days after he reportedly turned down a move to Chelsea because he wouldn’t get enough game time.

Well, James Nursey of the Daily Mirror reckons Stoke are close to a deal for the Birmingham goalkeeper.

The two clubs haven’t agreed a fee yet but they’re said to be close, with the Blues considering the latest offer from the Potters.

12:14 - Pick any transfer window of the last few years and chances are you’d have seen at least one Leeds player heading south for Norwich. Robert Snodgrass, Johnny Howson and Bradley Johnson have all gone that way - and now Luciano Becchio has joined them.

The striker’s moved to Carrow Road with Steve Morison going the other way. Becchio had been on the transfer list at Elland Road and Morison was always going to be squeezed out if Becchio did pitch up with the Canaries, so smart business all round there.

12:07 - Beckham’s available on a free transfer of course after leaving LA Galaxy and had been training with Arsenal. Manchester United - Real Madrid - LA Galaxy - PSG…it’s not a bad career path really. Couple of loan spells at Milan in there too.

Speaking of Milan, the signing of Mario Balotelli has officially been confirmed. He’s gone for about £17m, with another £5m to come in add-ons. He spent two-and-a-half years at Manchester City, winning the league and the FA Cup.

12:03 - Afternoon all. Thanks to Bradley King for the morning shift. He’ll be back later. You’re stuck with me until then though, so hopefully there’ll be some transfers to keep us entertained.

There’s no money changing hands but one of the biggest moves of the window has not long broken. David Beckham is to have a medical at Paris Saint-Germain ahead of a 4pm news conference to confirm the signing, according to Sky News.

11:53 - So with midday approaching, let's sum up where we are. Mario Balotelli has completed his move to Milan while David Beckham looks set to join Paris Saint Germain. Christopher Samba is on the verge of swapping Russia for Queens Park Rangers where he will sign a bumper deal while there are still moves on the cards for Gary Hooper, Luciano Becchio and Break Shea. And Paul Scharner has re-signed for Wigan. Phew. Andrew Tuft will see you through until 3pm. Enjoy your afternoon!

11:48 - Chris Hughton is a very busy man today and the Norwich City manager is also trying to sign Curtis Davies from his former club Birmingham. However the Blues have so far refused the Canaries' approach, rejecting a bid believed to be in the region of £2million.

11:42 - Remember Heurelho Gomes? The Tottenham goalkeeper has found himself way down the pecking order at White Hart Lane since the arrivals of Brad Friedel and Hugo Lloris. He's now set for a move to Hoffenheim and has tweeted that he has heading to Germany for a medical.

11:37 - Young defender John Stones, currently at Barnsley, was another player linked with Everton but it now looks like he could be heading north-west to Wigan Atheltic. Roberto Martinez's side have had a bid in the region of £3million accepted by the Championship strugglers.

11:32 - Things have been quiet at Everton so far but it is believed that they will be active today after the transfer of Leroy Fer fell through yesterday. Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has been touted as a possible arrival but he will cost at least £12million and there has been no news on that deal so far.

11:22 - Andros Townsend will not be signing on loan for Queens Park Rangers after all. After turning up for his medical at the club, the Tottenham winger was told by Rangers that the deal was off so it now looks like he'll be staying at White Hart Lane for the forseeable future.

11:20 - It looks like Norwich City are going to continue their massive grab of everything related to Leeds United today. Robert Snodgrass, Jonny Howson and Bradley Johnson are among the players who have moved from Elland Road to Carrow Road and now Luciano Becchio is set to join them. He has passed a medical and the final touches are being put to the transfer.

11:15 - Sunderland have finally agreed a fee of £5million with Swansea City for Danny Graham. Graham, a massive Newcastle United fan, turned down a move to Middlesbrough earlier today and now seems set for a move to the Stadium of Light, despite his black and white allegiances.

11:12 - Here's a big one. According to several sources, David Beckham is on his way to Paris to complete a medical ahead of a move to Paris Saint-Germain. "It's an interesting one," says Gary Neville on Sky Sports news. "It's another chance for him to play football at a high level."

11:06 - It's all rather quiet at the moment. According to David Ornstein from BBC Sport, Tom Huddlestone's prospective move from Tottenham to Fulham is now off. Could that have consequences for Spurs and their pursuit of Mohamed Diame?

10:57 - Newcastle United will complete the signing of Swiss teenager Kevin Mbabu later today, according to Ben Smith of the BBC. Mbabu is a defender who currently plays for Servette in the Swiss Super League.

10:46 - With the Chris Samba deal still yet to go through officially, Queens Park Rangers are on the verge of signing another new face. Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is currently having a medical at Loftus Road ahead of a move to west London.

10:43 - Three Premier League clubs are believed to be chasing Nicolas Isimiat-Mirin, a defender who plays for Valenciennes. As Isimat-Mirin is French, it is no surprise to learn that Newcastle United are one of those teams. West Ham United and Fulham are the other sides interested in drafting in the 21-year-old.

10:34 - Ever-mysterious 'Sky sources' say that Norwich City have made a fourth bid for Celtic striker Gary Hooper. Three previous bids from the Canaries were turned down by Bhoys manager Neil Lennon but Chris Hughton seems determined to land his number one January target.

10:28 - Stoke City have finally agreed a deal for American international Break Shea but the deal hasn't yet gone through as there are complications over a work permit. Shea doesn't automatically qualify for a work permit having not played in enough matches for USA and so must submit a special request to finalise the signing. Shea is training with Stoke this morning and the club is hopeful that the deal will still go through.

10:20 - Some Liverpool news is emerging - but Reds fans may have to wait sometime for a transfer to come off. It concerns Mobido Diakite of Lazio who has confirmed that he wishes to move to Brendan Rodgers' side. His contract expires in the summer though, and Rodgers may wait until then to make his move.

10:16 - The BBC's Ben Smith breaks the news that Milan have completed the signing of Mario Balotelli from Manchester City. Farewell Mario, it's been eventful.

10:15 - According to Sky Sports, Fulham are close to securing the signing of left-sided player Urby Emanuelson from Milan. Emanuelson is a Dutch international but has been out of favour at the San Siro in recent times.

10:10 - Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic says that he expects to be playing at the Britannia Stadium for the rest of the season, despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. The situation is complicated somewhat by the Potters' interest in Jack Butland, who says he would only leave Birmingham City for first team football.

10:02 - What about the Premier League big boys today? We're unlikely to be seeing much. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will probably not replace Mario Balotelli while Manchester United look to be happy with their squad. Arsenal attempted to sign David Villa but were knocked back by Barcelona, leaving a deal for Mohamed Diame the only possible option. Chelsea, who conceded two late goals to draw with Reading last night, have been loosely linked with Marouane Fellaini.

10:00 - We're an hour into our coverage of transfer deadline day and we've only had one confirmed Premier League deal, with Paul Scharner returning to Wigan. The calm before the storm.

09:56 - Wigan Athletic have moved to strengthen their squad in a bid to avoid relegation by signing former Latic Paul Scharner on loan from Hamburg until the end of the season.

09:53 - Danny Graham's representatives have ruled out the striker joining Championship side Middlesbrough. Sky Sports reporter David Craig says that Graham's representatives called him to specifically state that he is not interested in joining the Teeside club. That is news that could interest Sunderland.

09:40 - Wow. Tony Barrett from The Timesreports that Christopher Samba will be on £100,000-a-week at QPR, should he finalise a move today. That's an extraordinary amount of money and surely represents a massive risk for the club, who remain deep in relegation troubles. Chairman Tony Fernandes is certainly willing to take a few risks today.

09:33 - Here's a peculiar one. Aston Villa, lambasted in recent weeks for their lack of experience and leaders, should be expected to be active today. It looks like they are going to be, but not in that market. Yacouba Scylla, a defensive midfielder who currently plays for Clermont Foot in
