Rodgers does not expect Liverpool to sign Blackpool winger Ince

Thursday 31 January 2013

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed the chances of the Reds signing Blackpool winger Thomas Ince on transfer deadline day, branding the deal “too complicated”, according to ESPN.

Rodgers has chased the 21-year-old for much of January but faces competition from Premier League rivals Reading for Ince’s signature, while the manager was also concerned with the price tag on Ince’s head.

However, the most decisive factor in apparently ending Rodgers’ interest in Ince is time, with the deal most likely beaten by the impending closure of the transfer window at 11pm on Thursday, Rodgers admitted.

He said: “I think it will be difficult now. We could still do the deal but it looks like one that is a bit too complicated at this stage. It's about affordability as well. If Tom stays at Blackpool it doesn't mean he won't join Liverpool at a later stage."

Ince, the son of former Liverpool and England midfielder Paul, was part of the Liverpool youth set-up until the summer of 2011, moving to Bloomfield Road that summer.

The Anfield club have nevertheless been busy in the month of January, signing forward Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Inter, the latter costing more than £8m.
