Beckham close to PSG deal

David Beckham is expected to sign for Paris St-Germain prior to the transfer window closing, Sky Sports has reported.

Beckham, who is a free agent after ending his contract with the LA Galaxy in November, has be linked with several clubs, including Arsenal and QPR, but it is believed the former England captain is currently in Paris to complete a medical, with a press conference later in the day scheduled to announce the deal.

The 37 year-old ended his six year stint with the LA Galaxy with a successful capture to the MLS league title, and it was widely expected that the former Manchester United player would attempt to continue his playing career, having moved his family back to London. In recent days, he was training

with the Arsenal squad, leading to suggestions that he would sign a short term deal with the Gunners, similar to deals given to Thiery Henry in recent seasons. However, Wenger recently quashed those rumours, stating that Beckham "doesn't look at all to be in shape", and that the offer to train was simply a friendly gesture.

PSG, who are backed by wealthy owners, have been flexing their muscle in recent transfers windows in an attempt to establish the club as a leading European heavyweight. They currently sit top of Ligue 1, albeit on goal difference, and are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Beckham, who has not featured for any European teams this season, will not be cup-tied for the Round of 16 tie with Valencia, should PSG choose to add him to their squad numbers for Europe.
