Odemwingie told to focus on West Brom after QPR move collapses

Friday 01 February 2013

West Brom have told Peter Odemwingie to focus on his football and his service towards the football club after his dramatic actions on transfer deadline day. Odemwingie turned up unannounced at Queens Park Rangers on Thursday night, expecting for a move to Loftus Road to be finalised after weeks of pursuing from the Londoners.

However, the Daily Telegraph reports the deal collapsed after the Baggies had refused the 31-year-old permission to speak to the Premier League’s bottom side.

QPR denied him access into the car park, and the move promptly fell through as Harry Redknapp focused on signing midfielders Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend instead.

On Friday morning, West Brom released a statement saying: “Albion can confirm that no agreement was reached with QPR over the transfer of Peter Odemwingie before the closure of the January window and that the striker remains under contract at The Hawthorns.

The club were extremely disappointed to witness TV footage of Odemwingie arriving at Loftus Road on Thursday evening despite further talks between the two Barclays Premier League sides proving fruitless.

Odemwingie was also never given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.

Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments.

The Nigerian now faces an awkward return to the Hawthorns to face the supporters, his teammates and manager Steve Clarke.

He has spent most of the month attempting to manoeuvre a move away from the Midlands, which included a rant on Twitter last weekend which landed him with a fine of two weeks’ wages.

West Brom host Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
