Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the five-month spell David Beckham is to have at Paris Saint-Germain will help boost French football’s popularity around the world, according to Sky Sports.

Beckham agreed a free transfer to the Ligue 1 club on transfer deadline day, although as a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy he could have moved outside the window. Having signed a contract until the end of June, Beckham also announced he would be giving his wages to a local Parisian children’s charity.

The former England captain recently spent time training with Arsenal in an effort to keep up his fitness levels, and Wenger believes that Beckham and PSG are well-suited for each other - Beckham gets the chance to continue his career at a high level, and PSG get a player that guarantees publicity to boost the ambitious plans of their owners - with Ligue 1 also benefitting too.

Wenger said: “Beckham is a world brand and the eyes will be on him, and on PSG, therefore also on the French league while he is there.

I don't know if he had offers from all around the world, but PSG is not a bad choice because they are a very ambitious club, who have a lot of potential. They look to extend their reputation at the moment, and Beckham certainly is a good part in that.
