Andre Santos turned down Arsenal exit after Galatasaray interest

Andre Santos rejected the chance to leave Arsenal for Galatasaray in the transfer window, the Daily Mirror has reported, but the move could still be resurrected in the summer.

Santos has come under fire for a number of his performances for the Gunners this season but was adamant to remain at the club and prove his worth. At first his only real rival for the left-back position was England international Kieran Gibbs.

But manager Arsene Wenger made only one signing in the transfer window - Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal - and the arrival of the Spain defender has pushed the 29-year-old further down the pecking order of the boss’ preferred full-backs.

Monreal’s arrival then means Galatasaray will try again to sign the Brazilian at the end of the season, and Santos is no stranger to Turkish football. He originally moved to Arsenal from Fenerbahce in August 2011, having spent two years at the club.

He has made 31 appearances for Arsenal in his year-and-a-half at the Emirates Stadium, scoring three goals.
