Klopp, Moyes and Pellegrini all on Chelsea manager shortlist

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is top of Chelsea’s shortlist to be the club’s next new permanent manager, ahead of David Moyes of Everton and Malaga’s Manuel Pelligrini, the Daily Telegraph has reported. Former manager Jose Mourinho is also a contender to replace interim manager Rafael Benitez.
Klopp was first approached by Chelsea last summer, only to rebuff the approach of the Champions League winners and sign a new contract with the Bundesliga champions. Klopp has led Dortmund to consecutive German titles and is not thought to want the job at Chelsea, with his eventual aim to replace Joachim Low as manager of the Germany national team, but Chelsea will still establish if he wants to be considered to replace Benitez this summer.
If Klopp does turn down Chelsea once more then Moyes is a candidate. His Everton contract expires this summer and having put off talks over an extension until after the transfer window, could be ready to make the painful decision to leave Goodison Park after 11 years following a January that saw the arrival of only 18-year-old full-back John Stones.
Pellegrini, the former Villarreal and Real Madrid boss, is also a name on the shortlist. He has kept Malaga competitive in the Champions League despite the south coast side being beset by financial problems and routinely forced to sell important players, such as Nacho Monreal, who joined Arsenal in January.
Mourinho, the current Madrid coach, could yet return to the club which sacked him in 2008. His relationship with Roman Abramovich has improved from that nadir, the Telegraph says, while his position at Madrid is increasingly under doubt due to their stuttering league form.
Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League, seven points behind second-place Manchester City and 16 adrift of leaders Manchester United.
