Ince at the double in comfortable England victory

Wednesday 06 February 2013

England’s Under-21s recorded a comfortable 4-0 friendly victory against Sweden on Tuesday night, reports Eurosport.

Thomas Ince

Blackpool winger Thomas Ince stole the show at the Banks’s Stadium in Walsall. Ince scored twice for Stuart Pearce’s side, adding to an early goal from Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. Sunderland’s Connor Wickham rounded off the rout on a rainy evening, with a fourth goal in the last quarter of an hour.

A raft of second-half substitutions spoiled the flow of the game, but England were always in command and manager Stuart Pearce will be pleased with this performance, considering he was missing the likes of Southampton’s Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling of Liverpool and Manchester United defender Phil Jones through injury.

Shelvey impressed many with his control in the middle of the park, while inexperienced Tottenham right-back Adam Smith also caught the eye with some impressive runs forward.

The Under-21s have now recorded seven successive wins, and seem to be preparing perfectly for the Euro 2013 finals later this summer which take place in Israel.
