Hodgson backs Liverpool's Carragher to have coaching career
England manager Roy Hodgson believes Jamie Carragher could have a long and successful coaching career after the Liverpool defender announced he will retire at the end of the season, BBC Sport has reported.
Hodgson spent a short time as Liverpool manager in 2010-11 and feels that the 35-year-old should consider remaining within football and working as a coach. Hodgson said: “After retirement I'm sure he will march quickly up the coaching ladder and become one of the country's top young coaches.
“Having worked with Jamie Carragher it was always evident that he was a model professional who gave everything he had for club and country.”
Carragher will call it a day in May having spent 16 years as part of the Liverpool first team, making his debut in January 1997 against Middlesbrough. He made his first Anfield appearance the same month, against Aston Villa, and scored. To date, Carragher has made more than 700 appearances for the Reds and is second behind Ian Callaghan in the all-time Liverpool appearance list.
In his time as a Liverpool player, Carragher has won the FA Cup twice, the League Cup three times, the Community Shield twice, the European Super Cup twice and the UEFA Cup and Champions League once.
